The Healing Power of Therapeutic Writing and Poetry

Writing is therapeutic! In fact, James Pennebaker, PhD., a psychologist and researcher, has conducted studies that show enhancement in immune system functioning and emotional wellbeing when research participants write about difficult or traumatic events in their lives.

You may have questions about what type of writing would be most helpful for you and how to get started. Would it be journaling, writing poetry, free-writing, meditation and writing, morning pages (see The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron), etc. Then there is the question of what to do with your writing—keep it to yourself, start a blog, try to get it published, show it to friends, put it in a drawer, rip it up when you are frustrated, or join a group?

Your needs, interests, inclinations, and tastes are pivotal. For instance, you notice one day, that you have been writing poetry on the margins of scrap paper that you find in your pockets when doing the laundry, or someone gives you a classy blank journal book for your birthday. Then there could be alchemy and synchronicity—you see an event or group that “speaks” to you and is even happening on an evening or day you can make it. You venture into the visual attic, basement, or garage of your present or past and discover there is a pen and paper waiting for you there inviting you to write.

My own experience helping people use writing for healing tells me that it works best when there is no initial concern about editing or showing your creation to the world in print. In fact, the first step is to free up the censors, critics, and mind chatter so that the words you need to speak onto the page can get there. I think of therapeutic writing as raw and fresh. Crafting and editing can be an important, but different part of the process. Sometimes creation bubbles up in a perfectly formed finished product, but if not, what is initially created is the mortar and bricks of healing because it is your authentic and freed-up voice, which sometimes delivers a gift, a surprise, a glimpse of something important.

Turning to poetry, poetry gives rhythm to silence, light to darkness. In poetry we find the magic of metaphor, compactness of expression, use of the five senses, and simplicity or complexity of meaning in a few lines. For example, here’s a poetic description of day breaking: As the sun begins with a bowing/ down and a floating up,/ light, a ballerina, pli

Can A Few Words Help You Heal The Deep Wound In Your Soul?

If a word or a sentence has ever hurt you; you are then well aware of the power words have.

Old cultures, such as the Hindu, have known this all along; but only nowadays modern science has come to confirm the old beliefs.

Such is the case of the vast -and now well known work of Mr. Masaro Emoto in his “Miraculous Messages from Water”. He shows us the profound effect that words have on that vital substance: Water.

So vital, that we humans, know our composition is water in more than 70%.

Although Mr. Emoto’s reputation is well based, and his theory is solidly documented and now broadly accepted; you and I could choose to think that a theory is just a theory -until applied to our lives, and proven true (or false) for us.

So, would you accompany me to explore a few *Sutra Poems, out of curiosity; for the fun of it – or to accept their healing for your heart and soul?

Pray tell me of a wound you’d like healed, and let us – you and I together- aim to find some words for your healing.

Pray tell me of a wound you’d like healed…Is it, perhaps, a feeling of separation?

Is it profound fear of losing the love or acceptance of someone who once cared and liked you -but seems to no more?

The profound fear…

…Fear.

That fear that wants to bite away both, our confidence and joy…

…But. there must be an antidote for fear.

… Is there be an antidote for fear?

Please come with me, and let’s look and see if we can find it, together…

Fear is a feeling.

Then, let’s look into words first, because we know that words reflect thoughts -and thoughts reflect feelings….

Let’s look for words.

…Words for your healing..

Could these words be those loving friends that can perhaps, guide you to explore some of your fears. and still, take you beyond fear?

Could these words be those healing friends to you?…

I fear so much when You are angry When you are displeased

I fear I may lose Your closeness I fear I may lose Your respect and admiration

I fear Most of all To fail you

One day You gave my embrace The power To calm you down

To rescue you From any anger Or fear

One day My lips could soothe Your pain End your doubts Call your smile back To your own lips

My love How I wish You would grant me Again the power To protect your world From fear

But only you Grant this power And you’ve withdrawn it from me Now that I’ve fallen Into fear

I fear so much when You are angry When you are displeased

And To disguise my fearful fear I fall in anger

To match yours

But you don’t calm down Neither do I

And fear becomes worse And in the blackness of doubt -That maybe you love me No longer I shield myself In despise

…I tell you That nothing matters That life’s better Without you

And you cry And laugh in pain Laugh in anger And compete

To see if you can destroy me Before I attack again

Oh, my love I wish I’d dare To stop right here And be truthful

And tell you That I so much love you My worst nightmare is To fail you

That each of your dreams I remember And wish to fulfill In my heart

That only your bright sweet eyes can Support my soul In its soaring

That your words of love Will heal me Because I Will feel You Healed

You are my reason And my all And I dare My love To love

So I can recover My heart And with my heart All its power

The amazing power Of Life

Leave your fears behind My love of the smiles Like rainbows

Bring your shields down You are safe For I seize the moment And dare My love To love

And it’s To love I invite you

So that you heal And be whole -For your good Is my sweet mission

Because I dare My love To love

Can you imagine if you and that person in your mind and heart would read these words -and, maybe, read them to each other?

*”Sutra” is a Sanskrit word, root for “suture” or “sewing together for healing” – like in surgery.

Holistic Healing Guides Your Natural Healing to a Better You

Toledo, OH (PRWEB) February 5, 2011

2011 will be remembered as the year that holistic therapy incorporated healing and health into a new approach that is changing the lives of Americans, and world over, in far-reaching ways. Nicole Lanning, founder of Healing Art Forms and Holistic Healing Minute, uses her unique abilities to connect with her guides, perform readings and offer customized healings. She is also a renowned public speaker with a distinctive approach to holistic and spiritual cleansings, health and therapy.

“During seminar travels throughout the United States”, said Lanning, “I noticed a reoccurring problem of clients dealing with travel concerns. I was continually asked if I would be coming to a certain city near his/her hometown. The demand for holistic learning is there, but it needed to be in a more convenient format for everyone to have access to. I was inspired to create a way to reach anyone who wanted to learn and have this at his/her fingertips with the click of a mouse, and Holistic Healing Minute was born.” Through her travels Nicole Lanning had found a way to reach a broader audience with her message of healing, cleansing and spiritual enlightenment. Holistic Healing is about changing your life from the inside out. Nicole Lanning provides you with the tools, techniques, and guidance to guarantee a successful transformation of mind, body and spirit. Holistic Healing is personal empowerment at its root level.

Lanning’s message is that you can heal your life, in all areas, through easy to use step by step holistic healing techniques and approaches. Holistic healing works with the mind, body and spirit to resolve issues in life and ensure a more meaningful existence. Living a more significant life prevents issues from resurfacing in the future. Nicole Lanning helps you to reclaim your life and live it to the fullest.

The launch of Nicole Lanning’s new website, HolsiticHealingMinute.com, is distinctive in its approach to holistic healing and spiritual therapy. “Our uniqueness resides in the fact that you have my experience, know-how, and year’s worth of training right at your fingertips,” said Lanning. “I have been there and back, healing my own life on all levels – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – and can teach anyone how to do this in his/her life for any issue. There are many books, seminars, and online programs out there, but our program combines them all in a video format with downloaded files to enhance your learning, just as if you sitting in the audience of one of my seminars.” In essence the visitor receives daily videos, which begin at the core of the healing process, and are rich with exercises, lessons and additional information in audio, files and text. Lanning wants everyone to heal and does not believe that your access to a holistic healer should be limited to a seminar or book.

Utah vet uses acupuncture to help pets heal

Posted on: 12:04 am, November 6, 2013, by , updated on: 12:01pm, November 6, 2013

Thousands of Utah pet owners are now seeking alternative medicine treatments for their pets.

Zin, a 6-year-old greyhound, used to be a racer. Although Zin’s racing career is over, the dog still loves to run like a champion, which can lead to injuries.

Zin’s owner Kathy takes the dog to Dr. Kim Henneman at Animal Health Options in Park City.

Although traditional surgeries are needed to treat injuries like fractures, Henneman says alternative therapies can be used to assist in and often speed up the recovery.

Because she found a problem with Zin’s flexor muscles, Zin will get laser and ice, plus a brace to help heal the tendon. The laser is used to stimulate the healing function of the cells and reduce inflammation.

Henneman built Animal Health Options to be a place where western and eastern medicine could be practiced. Many holistic therapies are integrated with traditional medical care at the facility.

Dr. Henneman is one of 15 people in the nation with advanced training in acupuncture, and she’s one of the first veterinarians certified in chiropractic medicine for animals. Henneman is the only specialist in Utah in sports and medicine and rehabilitation for animals.

Henneman said holistic medicine on animals has been used in the United States for the past 50 years, but, for many, it’s a new discovery.

Earlier this year, the American Veterinarian Medical Association voted to allow the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture to be a member of its policy delegation.

“Any treatments should be performed by a licensed veterinarian with additional training and certification in acupuncture,” a statement from the AVMA said.

Now, a whole generation of vets are going to school specifically because they want to perform integrative therapies on animals.

Those vets are learning acupuncture for animals at schools like Tufts, U.C. Davis, Colorado State, University of Florida and Auburn University.

In Utah, the state’s Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing licenses veterinarians and acupuncturists under separate categories. Caregivers’ credentials can be looked up on DOPL’s website.

AIDS drug supplier Ronald Woodroof dies; Dallas native sought out …

Editor’s note: This story was originally published Aug. 18, 1992, in The Dallas Morning News.

Graveside services for Ronald Woodroof, founder of the Dallas Buyer’s Club, an underground supplier of experimental AIDS medications, were held Monday at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Memorial services will be announced later.

Mr. Woodroof died of AIDS Saturday at his Dallas home. He was 42.

The Dallas native attended South Garland High School, then studied photography for a few years and later electronics at various Dallas-area schools.

He was a licensed electrical contractor until 1986, when he doctors told him that he had been infected with the AIDS virus and had six weeks to live, said his girlfriend, Deb McGregor of Fort Worth. She said he then decided against mainstream medicine and began searching for alternative therapies.

Mr. Woodroof began trying medications that had not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because he had heard they were helping others live longer, said his mother, Billie Hughes Woodroof.

The FDA considers many of the experimental drugs unproven and even dangerous, although many people who use them feel they have little to lose and believe the drugs can extend their lives.

“When he set a goal, he met it,’ said Mrs. Woodroof. “When he first told me (that he had AIDS), I asked him, “What are you going to do about this?’ and he told me, “I’m not going to just sit down and die.’ “

A few months later, Mrs. Woodroof said, she lent her son a thousand dollars to go to Mexico to buy drugs.

She said he thought the drugs helped him, and he wanted to help others.

Mr. Woodroof made more trips, gathering more medications, and started the Dallas Buyer’s Club. It smuggles experimental AIDS medications that have not been approved by the FDA and sells them to about 4,000 people across the country.

Mr. Woodroof was responsible for finding medication sources, smuggling the drugs and finding laboratories to test them for purity. His search for medication often took him to Mexico, Japan and Denmark.

“He was a maverick, an inspiration and offered hope to thousands of people and worked hard for what he believed in,’ said Miss McGregor. “With his belief and self-will, he was able to live as long as he did.’

Other survivors include his daughter, Yvette Sweden of Odessa; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Eugene Braden of Red Oak; and an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schulz of Richardson.

Mr. Woodroof’s father, Garland Woodroof, died in 1983.

Memorials may be made to the AIDS Resource Center, the AIDS Foundation or V.N.A. Hospice.

Chakra Healing anyone?

Have you ever received unsolicited email that is just so funny, you never want to “unsubscribe” to it? I have!

Some time ago (about a month) I started receiving email from people who call themselves *Chakra Healing. They were doing some sort of survey and asked me if I would be so kind as to participate.

The survey started off with an easy question: your name and surname. Because I’m rather shy and introverted, I gave them a nom de plume pseudonym, or as it is known nowadays: a secret anonymous avatar.

I called myself: **Vrot Poeper, seeing that I’m often referred to as “an old fart.”

I decided on Vrot Poeper because it’s nice and short – and easy on the ear in any language. I completed the survey; and that was that – or so I thought.

This morning I received another email from these guys. I’d like to share it with you:

Dear Vrot Poeper,

I need to clear the air on this. (I peed myself – clear the air, geddit?)

You see, I get a LOT of emails with questions on Chakra Healing. Some people don’t really understand what Chakras are about. The buck stops here. You deserve the truth.

Eight Chakra questions you were afraid to ask:

Your 8 questions (my answers in bold):

1.    Are Chakras real? You’d better believe it!

2.    How come I’ve never heard of it? You don’t live with me.

3.    What impact will it have on my life? Your spouse will hate you and you will sleep in the spare room.

4.    Will there be any pain or discomfort? Only if you duck too late, or keep it bottled up.

5.    Will Chakras interfere with my religious beliefs? Contrary to popular belief, ALL religion is based on Chakras.

6.    I’m a busy person. Will I have time for Chakras? You’ll always be able to squeeze a Chakra in.

7.    What if I already practice something, like meditation? You can Chakra and meditate at the same time.

8.    What is the best way to get started? Start with very little pressure and build up to a full force, hurricane-type, mass destruction.

What Chakras can do for you?

You’ll be more confident and intuitive. You’ll attract more abundance. You’ll improve your relationships with your friends and family. Your sex life will sizzle like never before. And whatever challenges life can throw at you, you’ll always have the answer.

Always ready to lend a healing hand,

Regards,

Carol Tuttle.

OK. I sent my answers to the Chakra Healing Centre by email.

Now we wait…

**Vrot Poeper – from Afrikaans, meaning: Rotten Farter

Moldavite Fanatic

I’m a complete Moldavite fanatic! I always have a special healing stone with me in my bag in her special pouch so she doesn’t get damaged. I often wear a faceted Moldavite Pendant and occasionally a Moldavite ring. My personal preference is the raw stones they just seem to have more energy for me. I talk to them – and they talk back to me, I sometimes sleep with one under my pillow. WARNING – MOLDAVITE FRUITCAKE !!! I have the most amazing collection of hundreds of pieces and I am fortunate to have a few of the very rare Besednice Moldavites and I have a few for sale on my other website too.

Apart from being a collector I am also a Reconnective Healer, trained by Dr Eric Pearl and his team from The Reconnection, and I act as a catalyst to bring about change in your physical, emotional or spiritual health. I’m no expert with the use of Moldavite but in my work I have found that if I ask a client to hold a piece of Moldavite prior to a healing session it seems to make things happen more quickly and results from the client’s point of view are very satisfactory.  Moldavite open pathways between my client myself and universal intelligence. The vibration emitted from Moldavite is much stronger than other crystals and most people can feel something although it is different for everyone.  Some feel heat, cold, buzzing or their heart beating in their hand.  Moldavite is said to open the crown chakra, third-eye chakra and the heart chakra.  Some healers also put a Moldavite on a meridian point to help open the energy flow.  Moldavite is the only stone I use – and coming from a relatively ‘straight’ background I even astound myself sometimes that I have an interest in healing and these great little stones.  Ain’t life grand?

Is Moldavite Stone or is Moldavite Crystal?

Many people ask – Is Moldavite Stone or is Moldavite Crystal?  Technically Moldavite is a tektite or natural glass formed when a meteorite fell to earth millions of years ago.  Unlike all other crystals such as rose quartz, amethyst or citrine, Moldavite was not created my mother earth (Gaia) but by the super heated wave travelling in front of the meteor which melted the silica that was present in the ground.

I believe Moldavite is a crystal because a crystal has properties that a stone doesn’t have.  Moldavite gives most people a real ‘buzz’ and often they will turn bright red and and immediately start perspiring.  This is known as the Moldavite flush and is quite common – I’ve seen it many times.  A friend who had this reaction asked if she could cleanse it – I said yes and so she did.  It didn’t make any difference the kick was still there but she stop perspiring so it worked out ok for her.

When I have ordered Moldavite from my friend in the Czech Republic who is a Moldavite miner I know the minute they arrive in the country because there is a tangible wave – almost a tsunami that hit me and I’m immediately off-balance and dizzy.  I’ve figured out how to stop that now, thank goodness!

Moldavite is also a healing stone I often use it in my work as a Reconnective Healer if requested – it’s not mandatory.  I find it helps open the pathways especially when I am doing a distance healing session.

I love to share information and stories about my Moldavite Crystals and I have another website devoted to more detailed information – see the about me section.
